Buddy & Richie’s Gentle Paw Butter
A simple recipe for soft, happy paws – perfect before foraging walks!
What you’ll need:
1 tablespoon shea butter
1 tablespoon coconut oil (or olive oil)
1 tablespoon beeswax pellets
1 teaspoon ground oatmeal (optional – makes it even more soothing)
■ Important: Never use cocoa butter — it’s not safe for dogs!
What else you’ll need:
A small jar or bowl for mixing
A small tin or pot with a lid for storage
A spoon
A grown-up to help with the warm bits
A label that says: “Paw Butter – for Buddy, Richie & friends”
How to make it:
Scoop the shea butter, oil, and beeswax into your jar or bowl.
Melt gently – ask your grown-up to help warm it in a pan of hot water
or a microwave (10–15 seconds at a time). Stir slowly as it melts.
Add the oatmeal and stir again (if using).
Pour into your tin or pot. Leave it to cool until firm.
Label it so everyone knows it’s for pup paws only
How to use:
Rub a little onto your dog’s paws before or after walks, especially if you’re going foraging!
Let them rest while it soaks in and works its magic.

Paw butter is a simple, natural way to care for your dog’s paws—especially if you spend time exploring trails, foraging, or wandering through wild, plant-filled places together. Rough terrain, dry soil, hot pavement, or winter salt can all take a toll on their pads. This gentle balm, made with ingredients like shea butter, beeswax, coconut or olive oil, and even soothing ground oatmeal, helps heal and protect those hardworking paws.
It’s safe if licked and easy to apply, making it perfect for dogs who love the outdoors as much as you do. With regular use, paw butter keeps pads soft, hydrated, and protected from cracks, thorns, and environmental stress. Whether you’re out foraging in the woods or just taking a neighborhood stroll, this is one little ritual that brings big comfort.
